WCAC is thrilled to be partnering with the Hanover Theatre for the Peforming Arts for a special holiday happening to benefit WCAC’s programs and services. A percentage of all tickets sold to the Thursday, December 20, 2018 performance of A Christmas Carol will be donated to WCAC. Special VIP tickets available for $60 per person – include admission to pre-show reception where you can meet and mingle with members of the cast while enjoying hors d’eouvres and cash bar. Congressman James P. McGovern toured Worcester Community Action Council’s Head Start renovation project located 116 School Street in Webster today and announced his success in securing $600,000 from the Federal Administration of Children & Families (ACF) to support the project. Read more here.
On October 5, 2018, WCAC and MASSCAP were pleased to host the fourth of six planned forums throughout the state focused on strategies and solutions to addressing poverty. According to a new report on poverty called “Obstacles on the Road to Opportunity: Finding a Way Forward Together effective programs that help families to make ends meet, like the Earned Income Tax Credit, SNAP, fuel assistance, school lunches, Head Start, and Social Security cut the number of people in Massachusetts living in poverty by almost half and reduce the number of children living in poverty by more than half. Worcester Community Action Council, Inc. has been awarded a $400 grant from the Southbridge Cultural Council to support a free performance by the Raices Latin Dance Company at the agency’s Head Start center located at 25 Cole Avenue in Southbridge on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 6 p.m. The performance will be the culmination of the center’s annual Multicultural Festival and is open to the public. The Webster Five Foundation has announced that as part of the Web of Caring to Make a Difference program, it will donate $25,000 to Worcester Community Action Council (WCAC), payable over two years. The funds will be used to open a new four-classroom Head Start center in Webster. Read more here.
